Merfolk are a species that is said to be half human and half fish, and have been a global phenomenon for millennia. Tales of these fantastical creatures have been collected from all over the world, in both tropical and cold waters.

This is significant as sightings of Merpeople are most often dismissed as certain types of water mammals, such as manatee, which are not found in all climates.
